Our Story and the birth of Bio-Urns

In the year 2022, a heartbreaking loss shook the foundations of multiple lives, forever altering our perception of existence. Our dear friends son, Rhys, a wonderful child who embodied life’s vitality, was abruptly taken from his family by the merciless grip of Non-Hodgkin’s cancer. The cruelty of such a fate for one so young and brimming with life left everyone bewildered and shattered. Months bore witness to the unity of a family in distress, facing the grim prospect that their cherished son would in time pass.

Through the relentless struggle against this insidious disease, young Rhys eventually succumbed, leaving in his wake a family immersed in confusion and pain. A once-complete family of six was abruptly reduced to five, with each member embarking on their own individual journey of grief. As a mother myself, the notion of a child’s passing struck me with unfathomable sorrow. Observing our close friends navigate the process of grief only intensified my empathy.

Upon the impending anniversary of Rhys’ death, I had a cascade of emotions and my memories of him were intertwined with heartache. In solitude, I wandered through a serene forest, taking comfort within the natural surroundings. Nature’s embrace seemed to whisper the cyclical essence of life and its seamless connection with the earth, where all life being, be it flora, fauna or human, ultimately returns to the earth. Recalling the scattering of my own mother’s ashes at a picturesque waterfall years ago, I realised how much I had regretted not keeping her ashes or at least some of them close to me.

It was amidst the forest’s tranquil expanse, enveloped by a whirlwind of emotions and thoughts, that a profound revelation was born: the concept of a living terrarium urn – a harmonious balance between us returning those we lost back to nature, yet still keeping them close to us. A new living resting place that not only cradles the ashes of our cherished deceased, but that also nurtures a thriving ecosystem within the confines of our home.

And so, Bio-Urns was born – a tribute to Rhys and all those who have passed, a celebration of memories intertwined with the cycle of life. It stands as a testament to the enduring power of memory, a vessel that houses not only the ashes of those passed, but also the enduring spirit of life.

Each Bio-Urn nurtures the remains of a passed life and simultaneously sustains for new life… a living tribute that symbolises the eternal relationship between life and death.

In memory of Rhys and the journey of loss and the recovery that followed, Bio-Urns encapsulates the essence of life’s cyclical beauty. It offers comfort to those who grieve, a tangible representation of the eternal bond we share with our loved ones who have embarked on their final journey.

Just as life continues to flourish within its verdant embrace, the memories of those we hold dear remain evergreen, eternal and profoundly alive.
